The winningest men's doubles team in PPA Tour history -- Ben and Collin Johns -- have ended their partnership ahead of the 2025 season.

The Johns brothers, who won 33 doubles titles together and 43 total medals while playing together for the past four seasons, will play with different partners next year after a disappointing 2024 by their lofty standards. Ben Johns said in a text to The Kitchen that he hadn't confirmed a new partner yet.

“We’ve achieved so much as a team together, and I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished," Ben told Pickleball.com. "Change-ups in life and in sports can be a refreshing thing. We feel like this decision will help us find new purpose, create variety, and reengage us in the sport we love so much. This is not necessarily the end of our partnership for good, just a healthy adjustment for the time being. We’ll always be brothers first and part of each other’s pickleball legacy. We’re excited to see what 2025 holds for both of us.”

After recording back-to-back seasons with 10 or more gold medals in 2022 and 2023, the brothers won seven times this year. That's still two more than any other team, but they were beaten more in 2024 than the prior two years combined.

Johns brothers yearly totals

  • 2024: 7 golds (tour-leading), 2 silvers, 0 bronze, 20 tournaments.
  • 2023: 12 golds (tour-leading), 1 silver, 0 bronze, 16 tournaments.
  • 2022: 10 golds (tour-leading), 4 silvers, 0 bronze 15 tournaments.
  • 2021: 4 golds (tied for tour-lead with Ben/Matt Wright), 1 silver, 2 bronze, 7 tournaments.
  • Total: 33 golds, 8 silvers, 2 bronze, (43 medals) 58 tournaments.

Although they were still the top men's doubles team on the PPA Tour this season, their demeanor on the court was noticeably different than prior years. Both players showed more emotion and outward frustration in losses in 2024.

The brothers are skipping the Daytona Beach Open this weekend, so the next time they will be in action is at The Masters in Palm Springs, California, next month.

The two were initially listed to play together in that event, as well as several other events in early 2025. It was unclear as of Saturday who they would be playing with instead to start the year.

Collin was already signed up to play with Jay Devilliers at the PPA Tour Australia Pickleball Open in late January in Melbourne.

This is a developing story. Stay with The Kitchen for updates.
