Major League Pickleball is returning to its roots in Austin for the third event of the 2025 regular season, and it's shaping up to be one of the league's biggest events ever.

Austin has long been one of the most well-known pickleball hotspots in the country and the first-ever Major League Pickleball event was held in nearby Dripping Springs. MLP Austin is being held at Austin Pickle Ranch on May 23-26, which is Memorial Day weekend.

There will be five Premier Level teams (Dallas, Miami, New Jersey, Texas and Orlando) in action, and all six Challenger Level teams (Nashville, California, Bay Area, D.C., Florida and Las Vegas) will be making their season debut.

It's also the first time the team formerly known as the Frisco Pandas will be competing as the Nashville Chefs. The Kitchen took over in a management role for the team in the fall of 2024 and is now overseeing marketing, operations and sponsorship sales.

New this season, amateur brackets will be held alongside the pro event at select Major League Pickleball stops, following singles and doubles formats that are identical to amateur events at PPA Tour tournaments. The Austin Classic amateur event is already filling up fast.

Since MLP Austin will be the season-opening event for the Challenger Level teams, let's take a closer look at those teams. Unlike the Premier Level teams, which have 6-player rosters this season, the Challenger Level rosters have been kept at 4 players for 2025.
