For the third week in a row, Major League Pickleball will have a full slate of matches from Thursday through Sunday, this time at Pictona at Holly Hill in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The fifth stop of the MLP season was originally scheduled to be in Salt Lake City, Utah, but scheduling changes pushed the Utah event back to July 31-Aug. 3.
Nine Premier Level teams will be in action this week, with each team playing at least five matches. There will be a total of 26 matches over the four days.
Participating teams: Carolina Hogs, Chicago Slice, Los Angeles Mad Drops, New Jersey 5s, New York Hustlers, SoCal Hard Eights, St. Louis Shock, Texas Ranchers, Utah Black Diamonds.

Marquee matchups at MLP Daytona Beach
Thursday, 3:45 p.m. ET: Los Angeles Mad Drops vs. St. Louis Shock -- The Dallas Flash have set a target for St. Louis, starting the year a perfect 14-0. If St. Louis (currently 8-0) goes undefeated this weekend, they will match that record. Their first match of the week represents what will likely be one of the Shock's tougher challenges in this event. LA's women's doubles team of Catherine Parenteau and Jade Kawamoto has been on a tear, going 6-0 last week at MLP Phoenix. That combo is now 8-1 on the year and is LA's best chance to get on the board against St. Louis. The Shock's men's doubles team and both mixed doubles pairings are very strong, however, so it'll be a tough ask for LA in those games. If they could somehow force a Dreambreaker, I think LA would be favored to win that, as they have one of the best Dreambreaker lineups in the league (Hunter Johnson, Quang Duong, Parenteau and Kawamoto vs. Gabe Tardio, Hayden Patriquin, Kate Fahey and Anna Bright).
Saturday, 2:30 p.m. ET: Texas Ranchers vs. Los Angeles Mad Drops -- The Mad Drops are currently 8th in the league standings with 1.67 PPM, but I think they are better than their record (5-4) shows. They have only played two matches with all four starters because Hunter Johnson missed the first event of the season with a finger injury and Quang Duong missed four of the team's six matches at MLP Phoenix because he was suspended. This is a great opportunity for LA to prove they belong in the top 5 discussion, as Texas has been playing very solid all season (I have the Ranchers at No. 4 in my current power rankings). If LA can win this one, it'll send a message to the rest of the league that they're for real.
Sunday, 11 a.m. ET: Texas Ranchers vs. St. Louis Shock -- This has the potential to be a very entertaining match, perhaps one of the best matches of the year. The men's doubles game in particular should be electric. Hayden Patriquin and Gabe Tardio (St. Louis) are 7-1 on the season, while Christian Alshon and Eric Oncins (Texas) are 6-2. Both teams are also very strong in mixed, so this one should be close throughout.
