Major League Pickleball is returning to Phoenix this weekend for the league's fourth event of the season.

It will feature 7 Premier Level teams, with each team playing 6 matches from Thursday-Sunday at Arizona Athletic Grounds, which is one of the largest pickleball facilities in the country. There are no Challenger Level teams playing this week.

Premier Level teams in action: Atlanta Bouncers, Dallas Flash, Los Angeles Mad Drops, Phoenix Flames, SoCal Hard Eights, Utah Black Diamonds.

The Phoenix Flames are the host team for this event and will be looking to get back into the playoff picture after a 2-6 start to the season. As we saw at MLP Austin, home-court advantage is starting to be more of a factor at MLP events. The Flames will play multiple matches under the lights in what should be an energetic in-person atmosphere.

Because temperatures could climb into triple digits on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, MLP has pushed start times back to late afternoon each of those days.

Looking to catch the action in person? But tickets here.

Marquee matchups at MLP Phoenix

Thursday: LA Mad Drops vs. Brooklyn Pickleball Team, 3 p.m. PT -- Brooklyn has only played 5 matches and LA has only played 3 matches to this point in the season, so I don't think we have a big enough sample to say for sure where these teams fit in the grand scheme of things. And in each of LA's 3 matches they were without Hunter Johnson, who missed the first event of the season with a finger injury. I have Brooklyn at No. 5 and LA at No. 8 in my most-recent power rankings, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was a close match.

Friday: Dallas Flash vs. Brooklyn Pickleball Team, 5 p.m. PT -- Dallas remained undefeated last weekend at MLP Austin and looked good doing it. They will be heavy favorites in every match they play in Phoenix, but this one is their most competitive test on paper. Brooklyn has taken both St. Louis and New Jersey to Dreambreakers this season, which is an impressive feat, but they lost both of those Dreambreakers. Could they sneak up and get a win when nobody is expecting it?

Saturday: Dallas Flash vs. Phoenix Flames, 8:30 p.m. PT (Saturday Night Pickleball) -- This feels a little bit like when Alabama goes on the road to face a lower-level SEC team in the middle of October in college football. It's a huge matchup for the home team, and I expect the in-person atmosphere to be electric. I'm just not sure Phoenix has the firepower to keep up. If they could somehow force a Dreambreaker, it would be an epic scene.

Sunday: LA Mad Drops vs. Dallas Flash, 9 a.m. PT -- I've included the Dallas Flash in 3 of my 4 best matchups of the week because I am most interested to see if anybody can step up and give them a close match. Is there a world in which Catherine Parenteau/Jade Kawamoto can beat Jorja Johnson/Tyra Black and then the Mad Drops steal a win somewhere else to force a Dreambreaker?
