After a couple weeks off, Major League Pickleball is back in action this week from San Clemente, California.

The event will be played at the same venue where the PPA Tour just hosted the Orange County Cup last week -- the Life Time Rancho San Clemente, which is a favorite among players and fans.

Six Premier Level teams and all six Challenger Level teams will be participating. They are:

PREMIER
Columbus Sliders, Brooklyn Pickleball Team, Los Angeles Mad Drop, Phoenix Flames, SoCal Hard Eights, Utah Black Diamonds.

CHALLENGER
Bay Area Breakers, Brooklyn Aces, California Black Bears, Florida Smash, Las Vegas Night Owls, Nashville Chefs.

MLP San Clemente schedule

All matches will be available on Pickleballtv and the Pickleballtv App, in addition to:

Sunday: All Championship Court matches on MSG Networks, with LA vs. COL (10 a.m. PT) and UTA vs. SoCal (11:45 a.m.) also on Tennis Channel.

Marquee matchups at MLP San Clemente

Thursday, 1:45 p.m. PT: Las Vegas Night Owls vs. Nashville Chefs -- This is just the second MLP event of the year where the Challenger Level teams will be participating. The first time around at MLP Austin, the Night Owls beat the Chefs in a Dreambreaker. These two teams are No. 1 and No. 2 in the standings heading into San Clemente, so I expect another good match on Thursday. The Chefs are The Kitchen's team, so you can probably guess who we're picking in this one.

Friday, 4:15 p.m. PT: LA Mad Drops vs. Brooklyn Pickleball Team -- The Mad Drops have been on a heater since they finally got their full roster on the court together a few weeks ago, moving all the way up to No. 4 in my latest MLP Power Rankings. I have Brooklyn at No. 5, but they will be without Riley Newman and Dekel Bar this week -- both are dealing with injuries. Pat Smith (the team's bench player) and AJ Koller (on-site alternate) will be Brooklyn's men's players this week, so I have to give the edge to LA in this one.

Saturday, 2:30 p.m. PT: Columbus Sliders vs. Utah Black Diamonds -- We haven't seen Columbus in action since Week 2, and they have been my most disappointing team thus far this season at 7-4. I thought they would be a top 5 team and even have the potential to challenge for a top 3 spot on paper, but it hasn't clicked so far. They obviously were hurt by not having CJ Klinger for their home event in Columbus, but their women also underperformed in that event. They have regulation losses to New Jersey, Dallas, St. Louis and Orlando this season. They have a good opportunity to get some more wins this week, though. As for Utah, they are on the playoff bubble right now -- a win or even a point in this match would go a long way toward securing a spot in the postseason.

Sunday, 10 a.m. PT: Los Angeles Mad Drops vs. Columbus Sliders -- This is the best matchup of the week on paper. Columbus could convince me they're a serious contender for a top 5 seed in the playoffs with a win here. Meanwhile, if LA can win this one and take care of business against the other teams they're supposed to beat easily in this event, it would further bolster their resume.
