Major League Pickleball is heading to the Big Apple this weekend for the 7th event of the season.

We're in the later stages of the regular season now, as most teams have just 2 or 3 event weekends remaining on their schedules. As a reminder, there are 10 events total in the regular season, and 2 weekends for the playoffs in August.

There are 6 Premier Level teams and all 6 Challenger Level teams competing at MLP New York, which is being held at Sportime Randall’s Island, home of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy -- just minutes from the heart of Manhattan. It's the first time this venue has hosted a PPA Tour or MLP event.

PREMIER TEAMS AT MLP NEW YORK
Brooklyn Pickleball Team, Carolina Hogs, Columbus Sliders, Miami Pickleball Club, New York Hustlers, Orlando Squeeze

CHALLENGER TEAMS AT MLP NEW YORK
Bay Area Breakers, California Black Bears, D.C. Pickleball Team, Florida Smash, Las Vegas Night Owls, Nashville Chefs

A few injury/sub notes:
- For Bay Area
, Collin Johns will sub for Sam Querrey
- For Brooklyn, AJ Koller will sub for Dekel Bar (injury)
- Erik Forsythe will serve as an on-site player alternate

Marquee matchups at MLP New York

Thursday, 3:45 p.m. ET: Orlando Squeeze vs. Miami Pickleball Club -- We haven't seen Orlando or Miami since MLP Austin at the end of May, where they played each other (Orlando won in regulation). The Squeeze got off to a hot start to the season, essentially guaranteeing themselves a playoff spot already. Now everything from here on in will be big for seeding purposes. The top 6 seeds get a bye in the first round of the playoffs, and right now the Squeeze sit at 7th in the points standings and 8th in points per match, but they are in striking distance of a top 6 finish. Meanwhile, Miami is on the playoff bubble along with Utah and Chicago. I expect this to be a close match, and there's plenty on the line.

Friday, 2 p.m. ET: Carolina Hogs vs. Orlando Squeeze -- Carolina made some big roster changes recently, dropping Collin Johns from the roster and making a trade to get Etta Tuionetoa in exchange for Kaitlyn Christian. This is the first time we'll see the new lineup in action, and it's basically do or die time for the Hogs. If they play well this weekend, there could still be a glimmer of hope for a playoff spot. If they have another poor showing, it's over.

Saturday, 2:30 p.m. ET: Miami Pickleball Club vs. Carolina Hogs -- Miami is one of the teams Carolina will likely have to catch if they still have hopes of making the playoffs. This is a good opportunity to make up ground.

Sunday, 2:30 p.m. ET: Orlando Squeeze vs. Columbus Sliders -- Arguably the match of the weekend between two teams who are both hoping to solidify a top 6 playoff seed. Columbus has been up and down this season, but is still slightly ahead of Orlando in the standings. Orlando won this matchup the first time around, but Columbus was without CJ Klinger for that match. I have Orlando at No. 7 and Columbus at No. 8 in my latest MLP Power Rankings. We'll find out in this match if they should be flip flopped.

Sunday, 4:15 p.m. ET: New York Hustlers vs. Brooklyn Pickleball Team -- We've seen multiple instances this season where the host teams of MLP events are able to create great in-person atmospheres. I'd expect this to be one of those instances, even though the teams aren't all that close in the standings. Unfortunately for Brooklyn they will still be without Dekel Bar, who is now dealing with an injury after he was sick for multiple weeks. The good news: Riley Newman is expected to make his return from a groin injury suffered about a month ago, and bench player Pat Smith is day-to-day.
