Major League Pickleball New York saw 6 Premier Level teams and all 6 Challenger Level teams competing over the Fourth of July weekend, with crucial standings points on the line as the 2025 season heads into the final stages.

At the Premier Level, the Brooklyn Pickleball Team (the host team) and Columbus Sliders went undefeated on the weekend to put themselves in a great position for a first-round bye in the playoffs, which is given to the top 6 seeds.

The new-look Carolina Hogs also made a big move up the league standings (and these here power rankings) this weekend, going 3-2 and earning 10 standings points. The recent roster moves -- dropping Collin Johns and making a trade to get Etta Tuionetoa in exchange for Kaitlyn Christian -- seem to have paid off initially, but Carolina will still need to play well in its remaining 6 matches to earn a playoff bid.

It was not a good week for the teams from Florida, as the Orlando Squeeze (2-3) lost ground to Brooklyn and Columbus in their quest for a top-6 seed and the Miami Pickleball Club (1-4) is now dangerously close to the playoff cut line. Miami currently sits at 10th in the total points standings, but 11th in points per match (the top 10 teams make the playoffs).

At the Challenger Level, the Nashville Chefs -- The Kitchen's MLP team -- went 5-0 on the weekend, with four of those wins coming in a Dreambreaker. The Chefs still have some work to do to catch Las Vegas at the top of the standings, but it is mathematically in play.

The stage is now set for this coming week's MLP Mid-Season Tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Every team will be in action and cash is on the line for the winners in both Premier and Challenger. We'll have more on the Mid-Season Tournament later this week.

Major League Pickleball Week 7 Power Rankings

#1: Dallas Flash ↔️

Starters: Jorja Johnson, Tyra Black, JW Johnson, Augie Ge
Bench players: Ivan Jakovljevic, Tatiana Ruhl

Previous ranking: #1
Record: 14-0
Dreambreaker record: 2-0

Best result: Win vs. New Jersey in a Dreambreaker
Worst result: None

They didn't play at MLP New York. Next event: Mid-Season Tournament, July 9-13.

#2: St. Louis Shock ↔️

Starters: Anna Bright, Kate Fahey, Hayden Patriquin, Gabe Tardio
Bench players: Judit Castillo, Erik Lange

Previous ranking: #2
Record: 13-1
Dreambreaker record: 1-1

Best result: Win vs. New Jersey in regulation
Worst result: Loss vs. LA in a Dreambreaker

They didn't play at MLP New York. Next event: Mid-Season Tournament, July 9-13.

#3: New Jersey 5s ↔️

Starters: Anna Leigh Waters, Meghan Dizon, Will Howells, Zane Navratil
Bench players: Mari Humberg, Craig Johnson

Previous ranking: #3
Record: 12-3
Dreambreaker record: 2-2

Best result: Win vs. Brooklyn in a Dreambreaker
Worst result: Loss vs. Utah in a Dreambreaker

They didn't play at MLP New York. Next event: Mid-Season Tournament, July 9-13. It will be interesting to see who gets the nod to start as their second women's player moving forward -- the 5s recently made a trade to get back Mari Humberg, who was the team's No. 2 women's player during last season's runner-up finish to the Dallas Flash.

#4: Brooklyn Pickleball Team ↔️

Starters: Rachel Rohrabacher, Jackie Kawamoto, Dekel Bar, Riley Newman
Bench players: Hannah Blatt, Pat Smith

Previous ranking: #4
Record: 14-5
Dreambreaker record: 1-3

Best result: Win vs. LA in regulation (x2)
Worst result: Loss vs. Utah in a Dreambreaker

Brooklyn has really impressed me over the past two weeks. They've had to play with multiple subs on the men's side as Dekel Bar, Riley Newman and Pat Smith have all been dealing with illnesses or injuries. Newman was back this week, but Bar and Smith were still out, so AJ Koller filled in for for the second week in a row. They are 7-1 during this stretch where they haven't had their men's starters. Much of that success is due to how well Rohrabacher and Kawamoto have been playing -- they've won their past 12 women's doubles games and you have to go all the way back to May 30 to find a loss (against Dallas). Brooklyn's recent hot streak has put them within striking distance of New Jersey in points per match. Next event: Mid-Season Tournament, July 9-13.

#5: Los Angeles Mad Drops ↔️

Starters: Jade Kawamoto, Catherine Parenteau, Hunter Johnson, Quang Duong
Bench players: Wes Burrows, Danna Funaro, Thomas Wilson (IR)

Previous ranking: #5
Record: 14-5
Dreambreaker record: 6-1

Best result: Win vs. St. Louis in a Dreambreaker
Worst result: Loss vs. Orlando in regulation

They are 10-2 in matches where they have played all 4 of their starters, and have arguably the best Dreambreaker lineup in the league. Unfortunately for them, a Dreambreaker win only counts for 2 standings points, so their spot in the points standings will always be a little lower than where I think they fall in terms of ability to win matches. Next event: Mid-Season Tournament, July 9-13.

#6: Texas Ranchers ↔️

Starters: Tina Pisnik, Kaitlyn Christian, Christian Alshon, Eric Oncins
Bench players: Wyatt Stone, Felicity Di Laura

Previous ranking: #6
Record: 8-6
Dreambreaker record: 0-3

Best result: Win vs. Brooklyn in regulation
Worst result: Loss vs. Carolina in a Dreambreaker

They didn't play at MLP New York. Next event: Mid-Season Tournament July 9-13. It's hard to think Texas got better by swapping Etta Tuionetoa for Kaitlyn Christian, so I considered moving them down just based on that. But I'm taking a wait-and-see approach.

#7: Columbus Sliders ⬆️

Starters: Lea Jansen, Parris Todd, Andrei Daescu, CJ Klinger
Bench players: Ross Whittaker, Marcela Hones

Previous ranking: #8
Record: 15-5
Dreambreaker record: 1-1

Best result: Win vs. Texas in regulation
Worst result: Loss vs. Orlando in regulation

They are 8-1 over the past two weeks, which looks good and has vaulted them all the way to No. 1 in total points and No. 5 in points per match. But here are the 8 teams they've beaten in that stretch: SoCal, Utah, Phoenix, New York (x2), Carolina, Miami, Orlando. Only one of those teams (Orlando) is above .500. They also have beaten Phoenix twice and Utah twice this season, and somehow get to play New York AGAIN at MLP St. Louis later this month. Point being: I'm not buying stock in this team until I see them beat a top-5 opponent, which they haven't done yet. Next event: Mid-Season Tournament July 9-13.

#8: Orlando Squeeze ⬇️

Starters: Lacy Schneemann, Samantha Parker, Dylan Frazier, Federico Staksrud
Bench players: Grayson Goldin, Alli Phillips, Tom Evans (on restricted list)

Previous ranking: #7
Record: 12-8
Dreambreaker record: 2-0

Best result: Win vs. LA in regulation
Worst result: Loss vs. Columbus in regulation

I'm guessing 2-3 isn't what they were hoping for this weekend at MLP New York. Sunday's blowout loss to Columbus was especially concerning, since that was a team they beat earlier in the season (the Sliders were missing CJ Klinger in that earlier match, though). The good news is they got off to such a hot start to the season that a playoff spot is almost guaranteed unless they completely fall apart (and even then they would probably get in). The bad news is they are falling behind in the race for a top-6 seed and the playoff bye that comes with that. Next event: Mid-Season Tournament July 9-13.

#9: Carolina Hogs ⬆️

Starters: Etta Tuionetoa, Tamaryn Emmrich, Ben Johns, Roscoe Bellamy
Bench players: Liz Truluck, Martin Emmrich

Previous ranking: #14
Record: 5-14
Dreambreaker record: 1-3

Best result: Win vs. Texas in a Dreambreaker
Worst result: Loss vs. New York in regulation

They did what they needed to do this weekend to put themselves back in the playoff hunt, earning 10 standings points. If Ben Johns somehow leads this team to a playoff berth after the start they had, it should go down as one of his greatest achievements. They still have more work to do, though, and their remaining schedule is brutal -- they play Texas, Dallas, Los Angeles and St. Louis at their final event of the regular season. Next event: Mid-Season Tournament July 9-13.

#10: Miami Pickleball Club ⬇️

Starters: Milan Rane, Mya Bui, Jay Devilliers, Noe Khlif
Bench players: Yuta Funemizu, Ava Ignatowich

Previous ranking: #9
Record: 7-13
Dreambreaker record: 3-1

Best result: Win vs. Utah in a Dreambreaker
Worst result: Loss vs. Carolina in Regulation

They went 1-4 this week playing without Jay Devilliers, who missed this event so he could be home for the birth of his child. Yuta Funemizu made his MLP debut in Devilliers' place and went 3-7. He showed flashes, though, and his unconventional style was certainly fun to watch. But this team has been on a bad run (1-8) the past two events they've played. They will now be fighting for their playoff lives over their last 5 regular season matches as a result. Next event: Mid-Season Tournament July 9-13.

#11: Chicago Slice ⬇️

Starters: Vivian Glozman, Callie Smith, James Ignatowich, Max Freeman
Bench players:
Pierina Imparato, Carlos Di Laura

Previous ranking: #10
Record: 4-10
Dreambreaker record: 2-4

Best result: Win vs. Utah in a Dreambreaker
Worst result: Loss vs. SoCal in a Dreambreaker

This team will need to figure out their Dreambreaker troubles to stay in the race for a playoff berth. I do think it's a good sign that they can get to a lot of Dreambreakers, though, because they are guaranteeing themselves points in those scenarios. I also think the addition of Glozman in place of Vivienne David will be a plus for this team. Next event: MLP Mid-Season Tournament.

#12: Utah Black Diamonds ⬇️

Starters: Allyce Jones, Genie Erokhina, Tyler Loong, Connor Garnett
Bench players: Mehvish Safdar, Yates Johnson

Previous ranking: #11
Record: 8-12
Dreambreaker record: 3-2

Best result: Win vs. New Jersey in a Dreambreaker
Worst result: Loss vs. SoCal in regulation

They didn't play at MLP New York. Next event: MLP Mid-Season Tournament July 9-13.

#13: Phoenix Flames ⬇️

Starters: Jessie Irvine, Genie Bouchard, Jack Sock, Tyson McGuffin
Bench players: Alex Walker, Pesa Teoni

Previous ranking: #12
Record: 4-15
Dreambreaker record: 4-5

Best result: Win vs. Chicago in a Dreambreaker
Worst result: Loss to SoCal in regulation

We're still waiting for the other shoe to drop in the Genie Bouchard/Jessie Irvine fiasco. It seems unlikely that both will be on the team going forward, but no trades or other roster moves have been made as of Sunday evening. Next event: MLP Mid-Season Tournament.

#14: Atlanta Bouncers ⬇️

Starters: Vivienne David, Victoria Di Muzio, Todd Fought, Jaume Martinez Vich
Bench players:
Eric Roddy, Rachel Rettger

Previous ranking: #13
Record: 4-11
Dreambreaker record: 1-1

Best result: Win vs. Miami in a Dreambreaker
Worst result: Loss vs. Phoenix in a Dreambreaker

They didn't play at MLP New York, so we still haven't seen what they look like with new addition Vivienne David. Next event: MLP Mid-Season Tournament July 9-13.

#15: New York Hustlers ↔️

Starters: Helena Jansen, Dominique Schaefer, Zane Ford, Donald Young
Bench players: Luana Stanciu, Helena Spiridis (restricted list), Stephen Madonia

Previous ranking: #15
Record: 3-16
Dreambreaker record: 1-0

Best result: Win vs. Phoenix in a Dreambreaker
Worst result: Loss vs. Atlanta in regulation

They went 0-6 at MLP New York and only won one individual game. I'm declaring them dead. But they did win the battle to not be ranked last on this list last month, beating SoCal in regulation at MLP Daytona Beach (they had the benefit of using on-site sub AJ Koller, though). Next event: MLP Mid-Season Tournament July 9-13.

#16: SoCal Hard Eights ↔️

Starters: Cailyn Campbell, Jalina Ingram, Blaine Hovenier, Ryan Fu
Bench players: John Lucian Goins, Irina Tereschenko

Previous ranking: #16
Record: 3-16
Dreambreaker record: 1-4

Best result: Win vs. Phoenix in regulation
Worst result: Loss vs. New York in regulation

Despite the 16 losses, this has become a fun team to watch with the youth they have on the women's side (Campbell is 15 and Ingram is 17). And even though I have them last on this list, I respect what SoCal is doing as a franchise -- investing in young players with the understanding that they aren't going to be competitive this season, but could be next year if they can grab a big name in a trade or free agency. Next event: MLP Mid-Season Tournament July 9-13.
