Taylor Jarvis, just 18 years old, saw an opportunity in the slow, cumbersome setup of portable pickleball nets—and decided to fix it.
After realizing it could take nearly 10 minutes just to set up a standard net, he teamed up with his father to create a solution: the Shockwave Speed Net.
Designed for lightning-fast assembly, the Shockwave has already scored big on Kickstarter, surpassing its $10,000 goal with over $72,000 raised and counting.
During the COVID lockdowns, Jarvis’s family took to their driveway for intense pickleball matches. But when their local courts began requiring players to bring their own nets, he was inspired to engineer something different—something that could get people playing, fast.

The journey from concept to creation was anything but simple. The father-son duo built scale models in their garage, using cardboard, pins, and popsicle sticks to test the structure.
With the Kickstarter funds in hand, they’ve upgraded materials, including switching to galvanized steel for durability.
The Shockwave Speed Net, which is currently available for pre-order at $225 (retail will hit $299), is set to make pickleball even more accessible. From driveways to cul-de-sacs, the Shockwave could help players start games faster and bring pickleball right to the neighborhood.
Jarvis says he hopes his innovation encourages other young entrepreneurs to take their ideas to the next level.
His own journey, backed by family support and hands-on learning, just might inspire the next generation of pickleball enthusiasts—and inventors.
