It's been nearly a year since Leigh Waters competed on the PPA Tour, but that's about to change later this month.
The OG pickleballer -- who in recent years has been more well known for coaching her daughter, Anna Leigh Waters, to triple crown after triple crown -- will make her return to the courts at the Daytona Beach Open next weekend.
The Waters duo won 8 golds, 8 silvers and 3 bronze medals together before Leigh suffered a torn ACL in November 2022. They will play together in women's doubles as the No. 2 seed and Leigh will also pair with Dillon Segur in mixed doubles at the event -- they are the No. 24 seed.
Anna Leigh turned to Catherine Parenteau and Anna Bright as her women's doubles partners after Leigh's injury and found great success with both, ultimately choosing to play with Parenteau exclusively this season. Parenteau isn't playing in the Daytona event.
Leigh, meanwhile, seemed to find a purpose in coaching during her recovery, leaving some to assume she wouldn't compete again.
Then earlier this year, the mother-daughter power duo competed at the 2024 Minto U.S. Open — and of course, they took the title in women's doubles.
Waters also played a one-off event with Christian Alshon -- who she also coaches -- at the Hyundai Masters in January, making it to the Round of 16.
A PPA Tour post this week announced the much-anticipated return of the mother-daughter partnership:
"This partnership is more than just a team—it’s a legacy," the post reads. It seems many community members in the comments agree:
- "I’ve been waiting patiently!!"
- "iconic"
- "I AM SO HYPED"
It's easy to understand the hype when the Waters/Waters pair produces points like this:
