Major League Pickleball announced two trades Monday afternoon involving the New York Hustlers, D.C. Pickleball Team and Columbus Sliders.
Trade 1:
- D.C. Pickleball Team acquires Jackie Kawamoto from the New York Hustlers; Hustlers acquire Vivian Glozman and cash considerations from D.C.
Trade 2:
- Columbus Sliders acquire CJ Klinger from the New York Hustlers; Hustlers acquire Riley Newman and cash considerations from the Columbus Sliders.
Updated team rosters
Columbus Sliders: Jay Devilliers, CJ Klinger, Callie Smith, Parris Todd.
DC Pickleball Team: Dekel Bar, James Ignatowich, Jackie Kawamoto, Rachel Rohrabacher.
NY Hustlers: Vivian Glozman, Lea Jansen, Riley Newman, Jack Sock.
As Major League Pickleball announced last week, teams are able to make trades until Feb. 15.
It's not surprising to see Columbus making a major roster move after an 11th-place finish in the 2024 regular-season standings. D.C. and New York both made the playoffs, however, after finishing fourth and sixth respectively in the standings.
It will be interesting to see if New York chooses to hang onto Sock and Newman, who are both traditionally left side players who like to take a lot of court.
D.C., meanwhile, is hoping the move will be a boost to its women's doubles team as that squad looks to make the jump to being a title contender.
Every team will be required to drop at least one player from their 2024 season-ending roster by the keeper deadline of Feb. 16.
After teams have made their keeper selections, there will be Premier and Challenger Level free agency operated by dynamic bidding for each selection slot (minimum bid amounts to be shared at a later date). This gives teams the chance to utilize whatever bidding strategy they see fit in order to build the best full roster, in a process similar to the 2024 Premier Level draft.
Premier Level teams will acquire between three and six players (depending on how many players they keep) during a free agency draft on Sunday, March 2.
