PWR pickleball league in India delayed for second time, future unclear
The Pickleball World Rankings India League, a team-based pickleball league that was touted as an opportunity for pro players to showcase their talent “on a worldwide stage,” has been put on hold for the second time.
When it was first announced in September, the league signed dozens of players — including several big-name players based in the U.S. — and had targeted January as a start date.
That was eventually pushed back to mid-March and has now been pushed back again with a future date unknown.
Despite rumors circulating online that the league has been canceled, officials are saying they simply wanted more time to get things organized.
Some of the U.S. players that signed with PWR in the fall include: Will Howells (who has since signed with the UPA), Jack Munro, Erik Lange, Megan Fudge, Jill Braverman, Susannah Barr and Yana Newell.
The PWR India League had promoted a prize pool of $540,000 with a minimum of $15,000 going to each player who was drafted to a team.
The league was to be held at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai and headlined by tennis Hall of Famer Andre Agassi.
