When Breygan and Kasen Holbrook started Holbrook Pickleball from a small college apartment in Northern Utah, they weren’t trying to build just another paddle company.

They were trying to build a brand for a specific type of player.

The player who loves to compete. The player who is always looking to improve. The player who values the community that makes pickleball unique.

“We realized pretty quickly that most people aren’t playing pickleball because they’re trying to go pro,” Breygan said. “They’re playing because they love competing, they love improving and they love the people they meet along the way. That’s who we wanted to build for.”

That mindset has been a theme in the Holbrook family for decades.

Growing up, the brothers were raised in a household that emphasized hard work, continual improvement and taking pride in doing things the right way. Sports played a major role in their lives, and both brothers competed at a high level growing up. Over time, they became obsessed with the pursuit of better — not just as athletes, but in all aspects of life.

When they discovered pickleball, they saw an opportunity to bring that mindset into a rapidly growing sport.

What started as a few paddle designs sold locally soon evolved into something much bigger.

As the brothers spent more time on the court, they noticed something that would ultimately shape the direction of the company: The players they connected with weren’t just looking for equipment — they were looking for ways to improve.

Some were trying to win local tournaments. Others were trying to move up a skill level, learn a new shot, or simply become more confident players.

The goals looked different, but the mindset was often the same. They were all chasing better, and that realization became the foundation of the Holbrook brand.

Building a community of players

Breygan said everything Holbrook does is with those players who are chasing better in mind — from product development and customer service to ambassador programs and community engagement.

As Holbrook has grown, so has its reach. Today, the company’s products can be found in Dick’s Sporting Goods, Scheels, Academy Sports and specialty pickleball retailers across the country.

Despite that growth, the brothers say the mission hasn’t changed. They’ve remained committed to performance and have invested heavily in product development, studying materials, working alongside engineers and gathering feedback from players across a wide range of skill levels.

They looked outside of pickleball as well, exploring concepts used in industries like golf and baseball while testing hundreds of prototypes in pursuit of better performance.

The result of that process was the Holbrook Fuze, the company’s most popular paddle to date.

Featuring a dual-density foam core design, the Fuze was developed to provide power on full swings while maintaining forgiveness and consistency across the paddle face. According to Breygan, the paddle represents years of testing, feedback and refinement.

“There was a ton of research that went into developing the Fuze,” Breygan said. “We looked at what players actually need from their equipment and worked through hundreds of prototypes before we felt like we had something that truly represented what we were trying to accomplish.”

But they’re not stopping with the Fuze.

Because of their sports background, Breygan and Kasen understand what it’s like to compete when performance matters, and they believe players who are committed to improving deserve products that continue improving as well.

“We believe players chasing better deserve equipment that’s chasing better, too,” Kasen said. “We’re constantly asking how we can improve performance, durability, feel, consistency and the overall experience for the player.”

Holbrook brand goes beyond performance

The brothers emphasized that making high-performing equipment is just one piece of what they’ve been building with Holbrook Pickleball.

Earlier this year, the brothers launched a YouTube series called Founders to 5.0, documenting their own journey to reach the 5.0 level. Through the series, they’re working with professional players and coaches while sharing what they learn with the broader pickleball community.

In many ways, the project reflects the same philosophy behind the company itself — they’re players chasing better, too.

That commitment is personal, and so is the brand, which carries the family name. For the brothers, that creates a different level of responsibility.

“When your last name is on the product, you look at things differently,” Breygan said. “Every paddle, every customer interaction, every product launch reflects our family and what we believe. We take that seriously.”

That philosophy extends well beyond product performance. The brothers believe players deserve brands they can trust — brands that genuinely have their best interests in mind and are focused on creating value rather than simply selling products.

“We want players to know we’ve got their back,” Breygan said. “Our goal isn’t just to sell someone a paddle. Our goal is to help them play better and enjoy the game more. If we aren’t doing that, we’re not doing our job.”

That mindset shows up in everything from product development and customer service to shipping, warranties, ambassador relationships and community events.

So while Holbrook continues to invest heavily in innovation and product development, the brothers believe the company’s future will be defined by more than paddles alone.

At its core, Holbrook is focused on building a community of players who love to compete, love to improve and love making the people around them better. A community of players chasing better.

The same vision that inspired the company from the beginning is now guiding where it goes next.
