A new pickleball facility in Washington state is a shining example of how far the sport has come since it was created in 1965.
Although it will be located just a few miles from the original pickleball court on Bainbridge Island, the newest Pickleball Kingdom facility -- just up the road in Poulsbo, Washington -- takes pickleball to a whole new level compared to its humble beginnings in the region.

"Our Poulsbo location pays tribute to the sport’s origins while delivering a premium, modern playing experience," Pickleball Kingdom said in a statement. "We’re incredibly excited to bring Pickleball Kingdom to this historic region. Opening a club here is more than a milestone; it’s our way of honoring the game’s rich history and the vision of its original founders."
The Poulsbo Pickleball Kingdom location (21800 Market Pl NW, Poulsbo, WA 98370) will hold its grand opening this weekend -- April 5-6 -- with food trucks, special events, free play and tours available. Free play must be booked using the Pickleball Kingdom app.
The facility boasts 12 premium indoor courts and extended hours -- 6 a.m.-10 p.m. -- for early risers, night owls and everyone in between. It will offer leagues for all skill levels, daily open play, coaching sessions and group clinics led by certified coaches, free Pickleball 101 sessions and more.
Other Pickleball Kingdom amenities
Beer & wine available: Unwind post-match with a cold drink in a relaxed, social setting.
On-site pro shop: Featuring top gear, paddles, accessories and apparel curated for players of all levels.
Elevated mezzanine lounge: A great space to stretch, socialize, or enjoy a drink while watching the action from above with a panoramic view of the courts.
Instant video replay: Courtside video monitors let players instantly review calls, improve technique or capture memorable moments. Replays can be downloaded and shared directly to social media.
John Hylton and his sister, Mara, are Pickleball Kingdom area representatives and will be operating the new Poulsbo location in addition to the Lynnwood, Washington, location, which will open April 25.
“As we continue to open multiple Pickleball Kingdom locations around the Puget Sound, each club takes on a life and energy of its own — but there’s something uniquely special about Poulsbo," John Hylton said. "This club feels like it’s part of pickleball’s sacred ground. We’re honored to welcome players from Bainbridge and thrilled to see members traveling from Poulsbo, Silverdale, Kingston, Bremerton, Port Townsend —even as far as Gig Harbor and Sequim. There’s something truly powerful about watching these communities come together under one roof, playing the game they love so close to where it all began.”
