Some of the biggest names on the PPA Tour skipped the Virginia Beach Open this week, including Ben Johns, Anna Leigh Waters, Anna Bright, Jorja and JW Johnson, Gabe Tardio, Hayden Patriquin and Christian Alshon.

That left the door wide open for new contenders to pick up some big wins.

WOMEN’S DOULBES

Sofia Sewing won her first gold medal since joining the PPA Tour earlier this year. She teamed up with Catherine Parenteau and they beat Alix Truong/Layne Sleeth 11-8, 11-6 in Sunday’s final. While it was Sewing’s first title, it was Parenteau’s 55th — and her first in 2026.

That keeps an important streak alive for Parenteau: She has now won at least one gold medal on the PPA Tour every year since 2021. The only other players who can say that are Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns.

MEN’S DOUBLES

Jaume Martinez Vich and Elliott Schupp were playing together for the first time this week, and they both earned their first PPA Tour titles with an 11-4, 4-11, 11-4 win over Noe Khlif/Riley Newman in Sunday’s final. That followed an impressive win in the semifinals over Andrei Daescu/Will Howells.

It was the first time Schupp had reached a final after signing with the PPA Tour earlier this year, and he closed the deal in his first opportunity. Schupp has been on many peoples’ radar after a couple other deep runs in men’s doubles and mixed doubles recently. He might be making a case as the best lefty on tour before long.

For Martinez Vich, it was his 11th appearance in a final, and he was finally able to get over the hump to earn gold.

MIXED DOUBLES

It was another first-time partnership earning gold in mixed doubles. Eric Oncins/Kate Fahey topped Riley Newman/Catherine Parenteau 11-13, 11-4, 11-9 in Sunday’s final.

Oncins and Fahey faced a 2-8 deficit in Game 3, but closed it out with a 9-1 run to get the win. It was Fahey’s first doubles title on the PPA Tour, and Oncins’ second (both in mixed).

WOMEN’S SINGLES

With no Anna Leigh Waters in the field this week, Kate Fahey was the favorite in women’s singles. She capitalized on the opportunity, beating No. 21 seed Helena Jansen Fink 11-1, 11-9 in Sunday’s final. It’s the first time Fahey has won two titles in the same event.

Jansen Fink was playing in her first PPA Tour final after an upset over Sofia Sewing in the semifinals on Saturday.

MEN’S SINGLES

John Lucian Goins dominated in Sunday’s men’s singles final, beating Jaume Martinez Vich 11-5, 11-3.

Goins did not drop a game all week and earned his first title since winning back-to-back events in 2025.
