JOOLA POWER FX

Our take on the POWER FX

JOOLA’s first full-foam paddle surprised us. The POWER FX has a stiff, crisp, hollow feel on contact with an incredibly quick response off the face, quite different from the plush feel of the Pro V. It still uses JOOLA’s patented Propulsion Core design, but the core itself is EPP foam rather than polypropylene honeycomb, and the exterior foam extends slightly further down into the throat.

Is the POWER FX worth $179.95?

Yes. At $179.95 it sits in the mid price range, well under the Pro V, and we think it’s a really interesting option if you want a high-pop, offensive paddle without breaking the bank.

Who should buy the POWER FX?

Players who want to be aggressive at the kitchen line and like a paddle that generates offense for them. It suits anyone who found the Pro V needed too big a swing to get power. If you prefer a plush, soft feel on contact, the Pro V is the better JOOLA for you.

Buy it if

  • You want to win hands battles with pop
  • You want the paddle to generate offense
  • You want JOOLA power under $200
  • You play both USAP and tour events

Skip it if

  • You prefer a plush, soft feel
  • You want a widebody-style sweet spot
  • You want power to come from your own swing

How does the POWER FX play?

The pop off the face is what stands out most, so short punch volleys put you ahead in hands battles. The feel is stiff, crisp and hollow with an incredibly quick response, and the elongated Perseus shape adds reach. Our unit measured 7.9 ounces with a 114.5 swing weight and a 6.0 twist weight.

What are the strengths and trade-offs of the POWER FX?

Its biggest edge is effortless pop in a quick, crisp package at a mid price. The main cost is a stiff, hollow feel that is nothing like the plush Pro V.

Strengths

  • Standout pop on punch volleys
  • Does more of the offensive work for you
  • Full-foam Propulsion Core with EPP foam
  • Approved by both USA Pickleball and the UPA-A

Trade-offs

  • Stiff, hollow feel won't suit plush-paddle fans
  • One shape and thickness, the 16mm Perseus
  • Medium 6.0 twist weight on off-center hits
